![]() You say blank slate, and I see what you're getting at - but I disagree. He's the most despicable character, but at least he didn't feel like a repeat or generic.įranklin is a non-entity. He feels more like he should be on Rick and Morty than in GTAV. But he's basically borderline parody in an otherwise somewhat realistic game (in terms of human behaviour). Weirdly, Trevor is the actual exception to this. Their big problem with their main games, though, and this includes both RDRs, is that they essentially write the same few characters with similar character beats. Ironically it was actually better for the expansions to IV than it was for either the main game of V or IV. You say their character writing is top notch. What is the case for that? How would it even work? How would that impact the writing? You seem to be assuming a bunch of stuff you didn't write down. You don't make any actual case for that, though. You say linking the story and what happens outside of missions more closely is needed. We're talking about, at most, one minor first, which I maintain, would help get them out of their writing rut. None of that links to your claim about "requite a checklist of ground-breaking firsts", does it? Or where in story missions you massacre Strawberry like twice and they just repopulate it anyways for John's section and no one seems to care. You can't really have a game like RDR2 where every main story mission people are scheming to make a few hundred, maybe a thousand dollars and Arthur finds and solves a treasure map or gambles to 5000. The jolt Rockstar needs is merging the story and what happens outside of missions more closely. I would expect them to write that off like GTAO does and move on. A female protagonist most likely wouldn't deliver an experience no other GTA game offers as the author thinks, as I doubt they would make the gameplay between male/female different. Compared to that, the character writing tends to be top notch although I feel Franklin was a blank slate and just a mediator between the other two. I don't think a female protagonist solves any writing issues Rockstar is having, which tends to be the larger overarching plot and trying to end the story. The article mentions how ambitious these games have gotten and how a female protagonist would be a first, which I see as the author linking having a female protagonist is ambitious these days. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits. ![]() /r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban. ![]() Please report posts containing spoilers unless they are hidden using the following method or are inside a thread clearly labeled as containing spoilers.
